DARIEN, Thursday, June 12, 2025 — Future Standard volunteered with nonprofit Filling in the Blanks to take a stand against childhood food insecurity.
Colleagues from our Darien office packed nonperishable, easy-to-prepare food items for children in need to take home over the weekend. Since its founding in 2013, Filling in the Blanks has delivered over 3 million weekend meals to children in low-income households.
“
Volunteering at Filling in the Blanks was important to me because I was able to set aside some dedicated time to help children in need. I chose to volunteer because I wanted to contribute to something meaningful. The experience was not only rewarding but also really fun as my team and I worked together towards the same goal and built a stronger relationship with each other.”

Filling in the Blanks was founded by Shawnee Knight and Tina Kramer, who created the nonprofit to combine their passions for community, children, food and charity. Their organization has now expanded to include over 200 sites throughout Fairfield, Westchester and Putnam Counties.
“
Volunteering for Filling in the Blanks has an immediate impact on children in our community who are suffering from food insecurity. During our volunteer events, we work as a team to pack nutritious weekend meal bags for children in need. At our last event, we packed more than 1,400 bags (a Future Standard record!) and had a great time doing it.”

Our Future Standard office in Darien both volunteers and donates to Filling in the Blanks each quarter, with the next volunteer event scheduled for October.
“
We have been working with Filling in the Blanks for four years and have gone from volunteering twice a year, to four times a year. Our team loves going there and hearing about the impact and recent expansions of the nonprofit. Future Standard has always wanted to help children in need, and this seemed like a great cause to get involved with. We've since become great supporters of the organization.”
