Phil Browne to retire from CFO role and become a Vice Chair
PHILADELPHIA, June 24, 2025 – FS Investments, an $82 billion global alternative asset manager, today announced Joe McGeehin will join the firm in July as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. McGeehin will join the firm’s Management Committee, report to Chairman and CEO Michael Forman and be based in the firm’s Connecticut office. His responsibilities will include leadership and oversight of the finance and accounting functions across all FS Investments entities.
Mr. McGeehin succeeds Phil Browne, who is retiring from the CFO role after more than 13 years of service. Mr. Browne will remain with FS Investments as a Vice Chair and will continue to provide strategic guidance and support during the leadership transition and beyond.
“Joe is a proven financial services leader with deep expertise overseeing finance at a global asset management firm,” said Chairman and CEO Michael Forman. “We are delighted to welcome him to FS Investments and look forward to benefiting from his insight and experience in finance, strategy and governance as we continue to grow the business.”
Mr. Forman continued, “We are grateful to Phil for his outstanding leadership and dedication to FS Investments over many years. Over his tenure with FS, the firm has grown from a small, single-strategy firm to a global asset manager with a wide range of differentiated strategies across private markets. Phil has been instrumental in building our finance and accounting functions and fostering strong relationships with lenders, investors and ratings agencies. We look forward to his continued contributions as a Vice Chair.”
Mr. McGeehin most recently served as Deputy CFO and Head of Strategy for Bridgewater Associates, where he led the finance function and drove strategic efforts including a multi-year recapitalization of the management company to facilitate shareholder transitions and expand the firm’s balance sheet and the pursuit of organic and inorganic growth opportunities. Earlier in his career, Mr. McGeehin held various roles at Morgan Stanley, including Chief of Staff to the Chairman and CEO and in its Mergers & Acquisitions department. Prior to joining Bridgewater, he was appointed by President Obama as a White House Fellow from 2016 to 2017, serving in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and White House Office of Strategic Initiatives. He earned an AB in history with honors from Harvard College, a JD/MBA with distinction from New York University, and is a CFA charterholder.
“I am thrilled to join FS Investments at an exciting time in its growth trajectory,” said Mr. McGeehin. “I have been impressed by FS’ entrepreneurial culture and its plans for growth, and I look forward to collaborating with Michael, Phil and the broader team to support the firm’s mission and continue delivering long-term value to our clients and stakeholders.”
“I am grateful to Michael Forman and all my colleagues at FS Investments for the wonderful experience I have had over more than a decade at the firm,” added Mr. Browne. “I am confident Joe will be an excellent leader as the Firm enters its next phase of growth.”
